Our History
Moquini – Ever wondered what the origin of our neighborhood’s name is?
It is derived from Haematopus Moquini, the scientific name for the Black Toby, one of the most beautiful bird species on the South African and Namibian coasts. With their distinctive black body, pink legs, red eyes with orange-red eye rings and orange-red bill, Black Tobies can often be seen on rocks along the sea where they hunt mussels and other crustaceans.
